Today Jen and I got a chance to help out volunteering at Calvary Downtown Outreach. If you are sitting at a computer (like me), likely in air conditioned comfort, sipping on a cool drink or watching the tube, be thankful. Be thankful that you know where your next meal is coming from. Be thankful that even despite the recession or whatever difficult financial troubles you face, that there actually is a dollar in your pocket. Be thankful that you know you will be safe tonight, know where you will be sleeping, know that tomorrow you won’t wake up to face the harsh life that others might.
The faces of those I met were thankful. I had seen many of the same ones at Las Vegas Rescue Mission. I am thankful that our church gives us these incredible opportunities to both help and to realize how good we truly have it.
Within all the “troubles” I face every day, I realize how trite usability problems, schoolwork, lecturing, traffic, what to cook for dinner and how hot it is outside really is. Be thankful. Be thankful for what you have, protect it but share it. We are in this together.
